OBOE takes on NOLA!

In case you didn't know this about us, we love acronyms. When we heard two OBOE team members were taking a trip to NOLA (OMG!), we had to make sure they were fully stocked with OBOEsacs. WAL (with any luck for those of you not hip to internet shorthand), you'll be able to find them sitting on the shelves of some FSRs (Fantastic Southern Retailers). OK... we made that one up, but we like it so we're sticking with it. Here are a few shots of the Camo OBOEsac making its way through The Big Easy with our very own Jessica (who some of you will remember from the Jenny Owen Youngs show at the Bowery Ballroom).

BTW, the OBOEsac is GR8 for more than groceries. You can carry your Hurricane mix and a couple of six packs in there too. Just make sure you consume them all at a reasonable pace. The OBOEsac is NOT a sick bag (even if it is waterproof).

What a night! It was amazing to see just how happy people got when they found out we had something FREE and Jenny related. She is very lucky to have you all as fans.

We had the opportunity to meet and hang out with some of you last night and we just wanted to personally thank Jenny of course, but also Samantha and Laura (who posed for shots holding the bag). And it was awesome linking up with Tamara, Gio, Lavinia, Jess and Vanessa. We had over 200 people sign up for our mailing list, and we will be sending a personal thank you to you all very soon. One Bag One Earth will be giving out over 300 FREE OBOEsacs to help promote one of our favorite artists, Jenny Owen Youngs. Each OBOEsac is imprinted with art from Jenny's new album Transmitter Failure. You can check out her website here and her MySpace page here.

NYC to Charge 5-cent Tax on Plastic Bags!

The city is moving closer to a 5-cent tax on plastic bags.

Democratic Assemblyman Micah Kellner announced yesterday he has introduced a bill in the state Legislature authorizing the tax on all plastic bags with handles given out by any store in the city that collects sales tax.

The proposal has Mayor Bloomberg's blessing.
